KOMUZ

The komuz is a three-stringed, fretless lute carved from a single piece of apricot wood. It’s lightweight, portable, and deeply expressive — capable of producing both rhythmic and melodic sounds. Played by plucking or strumming, the komuz is central to Kyrgyz folk music and storytelling traditions.

    1. Shape: Long neck, teardrop-shaped body
    2. Strings: Traditionally made from gut or horsehair, now often nylon
    3. Sound: Bright, percussive, and resonant — perfect for solo or ensemble playing

    More Instruments Coming Soon

Temir komuz (jaw harp): A small but powerful instrument with a buzzing, hypnotic sound. Chopo choor (clay flute): A wind instrument with a soft, earthy tone. Kyl kiyak (bowed string instrument): Known for its haunting, emotional melodies
